Will come soon a video here …
Neurobiologists distinguish two main type of way of thinking;
- “heuristic” thought, which is based on beliefs, opinions and stereotypes; fast, easy, effortless, it is she that comes spontaneously to a problem
- the “algorithmic“, logical, rational, thinking that proceeds by deduction, inference and comparison; slow, difficult to access, it requires a particular effort
This “toggle” between heuristic thinking and algorithms depends on a brain box named “lower prefrontal cortex”, real cognitive pivot, which allows to block mental automation and activate a discursive, logical and dynamic thinking. It takes some time, needing to review points of reasoning rested head, sometimes seeking silence and reserve. This approach is bearing key to exit the beaten and bring an original approach to the problems posed.
Of course, we are not all Philippe Starck, Einstein, Steve Jobs or Leonardo da Vinci! but to the challenges that we are now posed, creative ability and innovation of a society is fundamental. Without being as “eccentric”, some of us have developed this ability in their field of expertise, to develop a methodology for innovation in 5 steps. Link here: see Article
- Exploration: open-minded, curious, get out of comfort zone.
- Focus: developing expertise in his field, link apparently remote data and collect their relevance
- Incubation: turn its attention elsewhere, sometimes while sleeping! or doing anything else
- Enlightenment: the idea of genius, the “Eureka” of Archimedes, which corresponds to a particular activity in our brain
- Verification: critical thinking, objective analysis, and submission of the idea to the other
Exploration; It is the diversity of projects, in technical terms (Process, controlled environments, production volumes,…) in terms of culture (Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Latin America, US or North Africa), but also in terms of product finished (Microelectronics, storage of energy, sterile liquids, vaccines, biotechnology, perfumes, cosmetics, bottling,…)
The focus; It is a great experience in terms of design and associated feedback, development of simulation tools and analysis, and critical thinking skills associated
Incubation; It is a whole lot of activity completely dissociated from the professional activity (music, sports, hiking biking and trekking, readings,…) )
Enlightenment; It is a few “ideas” that have changed profoundly certain units such as :tanks removed to the ground floor at YVES ROCHER plant, setting up shutle storage in R & D at NATURA laboratories, the tool of numerical simulation of capability analysis of process for MERIAL…
Verification; the requested pedagogy to explain the proposed solutions, verification of the feasibility in terms of timing, data bases for assessing costs, and the network of global partners to test some approaches…
